Medical Humanitarian Aid

Medical humanitarian assistance and health services support are urgently needed in crisis around the world. Some non-governmental organizations (NGOs) specialize in providing health care in humanitarian crises or the urgent provision of medicines to people affected by conflicts and disasters. DONARE has selected five NGOs that - with different focuses - provide emergency medical aid in humanitarian crises globally: Médecins Sans Frontières, Médecins du monde, International Medical Corps, Direct Relief and MAP International.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent medical humanitarian organization. Médecins Sans Frontières translates to Doctors without Borders. The non-governmental organization (NGO) provides medical assistance to people affected by conflict, disasters, epidemics or exclusion from healthcare. Rapid and effective response to humanitarian emergencies is at the core of its work. Médecins Sans Frontières was founded in 1971 in Paris by a group of journalists and doctors. In 1999 MSF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The NGO delivers emergency medical aid to people in humanitarian crisis, currently with projects in more than 70 countries.
