The climate crisis - one of the greatest challenges of our time - is already having a devastating impact on people and ecosystems and fueling hunger and conflict in the world's worst crisis hotspots. The effects of climate change will intensify in the coming years, leading to a further increase in humanitarian emergencies.
The climate crisis is a serious threat to the environment, nature and humanity. Action is urgently needed to limit the impacts of climate change and prevent multiple additional humanitarian crises. The climate crisis is a global challenge that can only be addressed through global cooperation. The international community must agree on ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and implement these targets in a sustainable manner.
In addition, countries must be able to manage the impacts of climate change. This includes developing early warning systems for extreme weather events, providing acute humanitarian assistance to affected people, and helping them adapt to climate change.
The climate crisis is causing extreme weather events such as droughts, floods, hurricanes, and wildfires. These events destroy homes, crops, infrastructure and livelihoods. They force people to flee their homes, leaving behind hunger, poverty and disease.
At the same time, the climate crisis is also fueling an increase in conflict. The scarcity of resources caused by the climate crisis leads to tensions between communities. These tensions can lead to violence and armed conflict between communities and, in the worst cases, war.
Climate change organizations play an important role in raising awareness about the issue, the challenges of the climate crisis, and developing solutions to address impacts. They are lobbying governments and businesses to finally take decisive action.
DONARE has compiled a selection of organizations, movements, institutions, and funds worldwide that are fighting climate change and advocating to address the impacts of the global climate crisis; many of whom you can support with a donation, membership or personal engagement. Among them are established environmental organizations and conservation groups that have been actively working for decades to prevent a catastrophe of unimagined dimensions.
