Médecins Sans Frontières translates to Doctors without Borders. The non-governmental organization (NGO) provides medical assistance to people affected by conflict, disasters, epidemics or exclusion from healthcare. Rapid and effective response to humanitarian emergencies is at the core of its work. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) was founded by French doctors and journalists in 1971. In 1999, Médecins Sans Frontières was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. The NGO provides emergency medical assistance to people in humanitarian crises, currently with projects in more than 70 countries. The Canadian branch raises funds and awareness for MSF's global operations.
