Oxfam International is an association of humanitarian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) worldwide. Oxfam International was founded in 1995 by a group of independent NGOs. They came together to form an umbrella organization to improve their effectiveness and achieve greater impact in reducing global poverty and injustice. The name "Oxfam" is derived from the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief, which was founded in the United Kingdom in 1942. The non-governmental organization is committed to alleviating poverty, inequality and injustice worldwide. Oxfam provides humanitarian aid, works on development projects and campaigns for political change.
