Sudan: Civilians cut off from life-saving aid

More than a year after the start of the war in Sudan, the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) said Friday it remains extremely concerned about shocking levels of violence and devastating risks as many areas across the country remain beyond the reach of aid organizations. Among these areas is Sudan's North Darfur state, where intensifying clashes between the warring parties are preventing aid deliveries to the wider Darfur region.

Sudan war: People trapped in El Fasher face starvation

One year after famine was first confirmed in Sudan's North Darfur state, and 843 days after the war erupted, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) warns that families trapped in the besieged state capital of El Fasher face starvation. The town is cut off from humanitarian access, leaving the remaining population with little choice but to fend for survival with whatever limited supplies are left.

Somalia Crisis

Somalis are facing one of the world's most complex humanitarian crises. This crisis is fueled by conflict, displacement, food insecurity, political instability, climate shocks, poverty, and economic decline. Although Somalia's humanitarian needs remain high, reduced donor funding since 2025 has forced relief agencies to scale back or shut down critical programs, drastically reducing life-saving operations. Severe drought conditions in Somalia are endangering millions of lives amid dwindling funds.

Afghanistan Crisis

Afghanistan remains in the grip of one of the world's worst humanitarian crises. In 2026, an estimated 21.9 million people — 45 percent of Afghanistan’s population — are in need of humanitarian assistance. The cumulative effects of violent conflict, internal displacement, drought and other natural disasters such as earthquakes have dramatically increased humanitarian needs throughout the country. The surge in the number of Afghans forced or compelled to return to Afghanistan last year has worsened the crisis

Yemen Crisis

More than ten years of armed conflict in Yemen have caused tens of thousands of civilian casualties and forced millions to flee their homes, making Yemen one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises. Two-thirds of the country's population - an estimated 23.1 million people - are in need of humanitarian assistance and protection in 2026, with Yemen's most vulnerable and marginalized groups, including women and girls, at greatest risk.

Sudan Crisis

The scale of the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Sudan is unprecedented. On April 15, 2023, conflict broke out between the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese Armed Forces, causing widespread displacement, hunger, and the world's largest humanitarian crisis. After nearly three years of conflict, more than 14 million people are still displaced as a result of the ongoing war. In 2026, the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance stands at 33.7 million people - two-thirds of Sudan's population.

Palestine Crisis

The overall humanitarian situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories is marked by a protracted political crisis, characterized by 58 years of Israeli military occupation. In October 2023, the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip deteriorated drastically following the start of a war by the Israeli military due to atrocities committed by Palestinian armed groups. For more than two years, an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe is raging in Gaza, where civilians are dying from violence, lack of medical treatment, famine, disease, starvation, dehydration, and hypothermia. On October 10, 2025, a ceasefire between Israel and the armed group Hamas went into effect.
