Famine confirmed in parts of Sudan

A United Nations-backed food security report concluded Thursday that more than a year of war in Sudan has pushed parts of North Darfur into famine, including a displaced persons camp that houses more than half a million people. The UN World Food Programme (WFP) is urgently calling on all warring parties to allow humanitarian food assistance by freeing up key access points within the country and at its borders.

Sudan: UN renews appeal for ceasefire as fighting spreads

The United Nations on Tuesday renewed its appeal for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan, with officials warning that civilians are paying a heavy price for the fighting as outside parties fuel the conflict by supplying weapons. They say the unrelenting violence in Sudan, which has raged for more than 18 months, is poised to intensify, worsening already alarming levels of human rights violations, hunger and displacement.

International Criminal Court condemns US move to impose sanctions

The International Criminal Court (ICC) on Friday condemned the issuance of an executive order by the United States president that seeks to impose sanctions on its officials and " harm its independent and impartial judicial work." The ICC said it stands firmly by its staff and pledges to continue to bring justice and hope to millions of innocent victims of atrocities across the world. The Court in The Hague said it will do so "in all situations before it" and "in the sole interest of human dignity."

More than 4 million people at risk of severe hunger in north-east Nigeria

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is warning about widespread hunger and child malnutrition in the north-east of Nigeria as the lean season is set to begin next month. Some 4.3 million people in the conflict-affected states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe are projected to face severe hunger between June and August.

International Rescue Committee (IRC)

Founded in 1933 with the aim of helping the politically persecuted, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is one of the largest non-governmental organizations (NGO) focusing on the support of refugees worldwide. The NGO provides emergency aid and long-term assistance to refugees and those displaced by war, persecution, or natural disaster. The IRC responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises and helps people affected by humanitarian crises to survive and rebuild their live. Its international headquarters are based in the United States.

UNICEF Canada

UNICEF Canada was founded in 1955, and is one of 34 National Committees located in countries around the world. The National Committees are a part of UNICEF’s global organization, each established as an independent local non-governmental organization (NGO). The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is the agency of the UN responsible for providing humanitarian and developmental aid to children worldwide.  The UN agency is today one of the largest humanitarian organizations in the world.

Christian Aid

Christian Aid is a humanitarian aid and development organization of more than 40 Christian churches in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Founded in 1947, the faith-based Christian charity works to promote sustainable development, eradicate poverty, support civil society and provide disaster relief in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and South America. Christian Aid works with local partners and communities to fight injustice, respond to humanitarian emergencies, and advocate for social change.

United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is the UN agency responsible for providing humanitarian and development assistance to children worldwide. UNICEF was founded in 1946 as the "United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund" and is now known as the "United Nations Children's Fund". The UN organization is one of the largest humanitarian organizations in the world. The children's relief organization is active in over 190 countries and territories to protect the rights of children. The organization is based in New York City, United States.

CARE International UK

CARE is an international humanitarian organization fighting global poverty and providing assistance in emergencies. The non-governmental organization focuses on empowering women and girls. CARE nowadays stands for "Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere". The non-governmental organization, is one of the largest and oldest humanitarian aid organizations focused on fighting global poverty and social injustice.

ChildFund Australia is an independent international development and humanitarian organization working to reduce child poverty in many of the world's most disadvantaged communities. ChildFund Australia is a member of the global ChildFund Alliance - one of the world's oldest child-focused charities. With a global network of 11 organizations, the ChildFund Alliance serves nearly 36 million children and families in 70 countries. Alliance members also respond to humanitarian emergencies.

Oxfam is a prominent international aid organization that focuses on alleviating poverty and advocating for social justice. Oxfam America is the branch operating in the United States.  The name “Oxfam” derives from the Oxford Committee for Famine Relief, founded in Britain in 1942. The non-governmental organization (NGO) aims to alleviate poverty, inequality, and injustice globally. Oxfam provides humanitarian assistance, works on development projects, and advocates for policy changes.

Australian Red Cross

The Australian branch of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement provides assistance to people affected by disasters and conflicts, as well as health and community services. The Australian Red Cross, one of the most prominent humanitarian organizations in Australia, responds to disasters both domestically and internationally. The humanitarian organization provides emergency relief such as shelter, food, water, and medical assistance to those affected by natural disasters like bushfires, floods, cyclones, and earthquakes.

Famine

Famine refers to an extreme and widespread scarcity of food and nutrition that leads to severe hunger, malnutrition, and high mortality rates among a large population. It is the most severe form of food insecurity and is characterized by a combination of factors, including a significant decline in food production, limited access to food, and inadequate humanitarian response.

CARE Canada

CARE is an international humanitarian organization fighting global poverty and providing assistance in emergencies. Its Canadian branch is called CARE Canada. The non-governmental organization (NGO) focuses on empowering women and girls. CARE nowadays stands for "Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere". WASH

WASH stands for water, sanitation, and hygiene. The acronym WASH is widely used in the context of humanitarian aid and development work by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and United Nations agencies. Access to safe water and sanitation is a human right.
